Ayagoundanoor was derived from the name Ayan Goundar. Ayan Goundar and Krishnan Goundar are brothers who settled in this region. Several hundreds Ayan Goundar and Krishnan came to place and thoght to settle at this place along with their family. Since Ayan Goundar was elder he owned the lands that were towards West and Krishnan Goundar owned the lands that were towards East. Krishnagoundanoor was derived from the name Krishnan Goundar. The famous temple that belongs to Ayagoundanoor is Ponniyamman temple that is located in the border of the village. During Thai Pournami Ponniyamman Thiruvizha is beeing performed. During this Festival Ponniyamman will be decorated with Jewels and flowers and will be marched around the hill named Asurar Malai. Once the march has been completed devotions will be performed for the Amman to give dharisanan in the form of Jothi. NOTE: This is the only temple Jothis is being showed by the Amman naturally in the world apart from Sabarimala. Ayagoundanoor is one of the oldest Village in Vellore District. There is small pond called Theertha kulam on top of the Asurar Malai. The water from that pond is used to heal any kind of deseases that attacks human beings as well as Domestic animals. Currently a temple is beeing built for for the Goddess named Theerthamman. Born Hindus should at least one in their life time vist the Ponniamman Thiruvizha inorder to see the the Jothi. Since there is no proper administration and advertisement people are not aware of this village and about Ponniyamman temple (Jothi shown during Thai Pournami). It is beeing believed that if you see all three sparkling vision (Jothi) whatever you pray it will happen. Please visit this village and be blessed by the Goddess Ponniyamman.
