Pratappur was a small zamindari, it was ruled by brahmin zamindars. The area under their rule was 1500 Bigha and majority of the land was under cultivation which was cultivated by ryots. Zamindars of pratappur also own land in different parts of Bihar and Jharkhand. During the British Raj they were given the rights to collect revenue from the people living in their jurisdiction. Their main seat of power was in the village of pratappur but they were famous in the whole parts of Santhal Pargana. The zamindars were originally brahims and had their origin in the Madhubani District of Bihar. The founder of the zamindari of Pratappur was fourth and the youngest son of a poor brahmin in Madhubani. He left his home in search of work and he also was knowledged in some magical powers. He heard the news that the local King of Santhal Pargana will give half of his territory to the person who can cure his ailing only son. It is said that with his magical powers he cured the prince and half of the territory was given to him in reward. He then established the Estate of Pratappur and the title used by him was"Malik". Throughout many generations the zamindars had only one son and the son enjoyed supreme powers but in 1860s a zamindar had two sons and they fighted for individual estates, So the pratappur estate was divided in two estates. The leader of one estate was not so nobled man and the condition of his estate was degrading day by day.The leader of  second estate was Malik Bajitlal Mishr he was a very powerful and knowlegdable man. He made good relations with the Britishers and enjoyed immense power till the Independence of India and Abolition Of Zamindari In India. After the abolition of zamindari the government of India gave clerkical jobs to the sons of zamindars. Malik Bajitlal Mishr has 6 sons and 2 daughters. The 2 daughters were married in different zamindaris of Santhal Pargana. The Reign of Malik Bajitlal Mishr was a golden era for the pratappur zamindari. Malik Bajitlal Mishr was the last and the most powerful zamindar of Pratappur.Their descendants also enjoy some luxury and power which was earned by their grandfather. In pratappur their are 42 houses only of direct descendants of Malik Bajitlal Mishr and the total land was divided among the descendants and they also do farming in their land the had to pay the ryots their share.
