The name "kalluthu" comes from the tamil words Kal(கல்) and Muthu(ஊத்து) which means water comes from stone. In Ramayana, Seth was attracted by a dotted deer and she seek Rama to get that deer. Rama went behind that deer and tried to kill it by his bow and arrow. One of his arrows stricken on a stone so that water comes from that stone. It happened in this place. It is an ancient story given by the localians. That water coming stone is there in kalluthu now also.
