ABOUT ARAKU MISSION - BENJIPUR LUTHERAN HISTORY.
As a faith expression of the church of JELC/AELC/UELCI, Araku Valley Mission was established in the year 1993 to preach goodnews of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ in the remote hilly slope area in Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh bordering Odisha State. The tribals accepted Jesus Christ as their Liberator and Savior, thus helped the church to plant more than 100 village congregations in Araku Valley, Ananthagiri, Dumbriguda, Hukumpeta mandal and Paderu mandals. The Benjipur is the Head quarter of the Project.
Jeypore EvangelicalLutheranChurch – Start Up.
The Jeypore Evangelical Lutheran Church the pioneers to start Benjipur Mission Field during 1950’s but later handed over to UELCI for Administration, Management and function Missionary work on 19-03-1993.
As a start up, JELC ordained a local leader Late.A.K.Patro as the In charge of Benjipur Mission Field under Nandapur Deanery of Adivasi Christiyo Samaj (JELC). Then the UELCI appointed Rev.B.E.Sanjeev Kumar Pastor (AELC) to look after the day to day Missionary work with Mr.Chittharanjan Patro and Sri.Santhi Nidhi Patro (Evangelists). By the grace of God slowly the Mission Field extended to other Parts in Visakha agency area hence appointed local leaders as Evangelists to develop the congregations with their mother tongue.
The Araku Valley Mission through its evangelist is building churches and has community organizations such as Self Help Groups of women engaging in the spiritual and socio-economic uplift of the rural tribal congregations.The church has its women and youth wings at every grass-root level.
