Glimpse of Ruzazho villageRuzazho village is named after two big lakes, apparently upper one is male and lower one is female. Hence, the name €œ"Ruzazho"€ derived from the combination of two words €œ"Ruza"€ meaning lake and "€œZho"€ meaning plateau or plains. Ruzazho is one of the oldest villages in Chozuba range under Phek District of Nagaland State in India. It is once known to be the richest village both economically and in manpower. It is an eco-friendly village bounded by magnificent hillocks and surrounded by exquisite terrace fields, beautiful streams and rivulets flows from different lines. The famous Tusuru River is known for its tastiest fish is found in this region because of its rich mineral water. View of Ruzazho village during Bose and INA struggle and present view. (PIC)The southern and northern part is blanketed with green mountains giving a soothing and a calming view and is filled with various species of flora and fauna. (PIC)These fresh green mountains are the source of fresh air and pleasant weather. Different decorative trees and wild flowers are found plentiful in and around the village. (PIC) Varieties of edible wild vegetables and fruits are not only consumed by the villagers but are also supplied to different parts of the state and are in high demand. It is also worth mentioning the presence of various medicinal herbs which were being used by the people for ages as local healing remedies and which were still in its virgin state. There lays an ample scope to engage research on such herbs in this locality.The village is famous for its cultural heritage. Supernatural legends and myths surround the village and were talked by the neighbouring villages. There are ancient beliefs that human came out from the cave called Sowhupra. Historical sites with myths like fairyland located opposite to the village and about 3km away is a place where voice of cries, laughter and whispers could be heard.In a corner on a beautiful rocky cliff, there is a stone jar which is believed to be the jar of fairy. With great difficulties our forefathers had collected many valuable things from this fairy jar. This jar still remains in its original place.Below the village there is a natural stone gate at the length and height is 20m and 10m respectively. There are certain super natural beliefs regarding this stone gate which the villagers talked about.Another interesting site is Pide Zholu (place for counting the hunted heads during head-hunting€™s period). During those head- hunting days our forefathers killed many enemies. On their way back to the village they came to this particular place and counted the enemies heads and performed rituals. Thurukhasu situated in the opposite side of the village is a dense forest and every day the villagers look at this place to forecast weather. When a cloud appears in this location at any time be it morning, noon or evening it rains. Many neighbouring villages also look at this place to forecast weather. There are beliefs that when they migrated, certain things need to be determined about the suitability of the new place for settlement. Accordingly, one night they made €"Ganna" and collected some leaves to look for signs in order to determine the nature of the people and whether it will be the right place for settlement. The next day as they woke up at early dawn they saw a little beautiful bird (Thunyi) sitting on those collected leaves singing sweetly. This signifies the superstitious belief that the people living in this village would be very good singers. Interestingly, the villagers are extremely gifted with excellent voice especially in folk song and also folk dance with the highest winning record in the district.
