OverView of Karil

Karil is named after the Karil tree which were in abundance in the village. Karil originally was held by Kirar tribe who were ousted by Ponia Jats. Two Ponia brothers Shri Harshsen and Shri Barsimha( Harsha and Barsa) were resident of pargana Sahar. Their mother was a Bharangar Jat of Anora village. The Bharangars of Anora invited Harsha and Barsa to attack the Kirars at night . The Kirars were defeated by the combined army of the Ponias and Bharangars. Karil was captured by the Ponia brothers and the villages was renamed Jatoi Karil. The descendants of Harsa and Barsa partitioned the village into two distinct mauzas, Jatoi and Karil. During the Mughal time both Jatoi and Karil formed part of the tappa of Jawar in the pargana of Mahawan. The tappa of Jawar was held by the Thenua Jat ruling house. The tappa was added to Sadabad Pargana during the reign of Emperor Shahjahan. Thakur Shri Nain Sen, Pachera Jat who annexed 18 villages in Mahawan pargana and founded the Taluqa of Aira Khera married a Ponia Jat lady from Karil. Faujdar Shri Nandram Thenua of Jawar founded an independent principality out of the Mughal Empire and Karil formed part of it. His sons partitioned his property and Faujdar Shri Bhoj Singh received the original tappa of Jawar with Karil and Jatoi. Later the sons of Raja Shri Bhure Singh of Hathras received the taluqa of Karil. The Thenua Jat Thakurs of Karil built a fortress named Garhi in the village and held the taluqa till independence. Raja Shri Harinaraiyan Singh of Hathras was adopted from the Karil-Jatoi Thakurs. The Bohres of Karil were famous during British time, they were Ponia Jats. The Bohre family was founded by Bohre Jal Singh who brought land in 5 villages in Hathras Pargana from the Britishers. The fortunes of Bohre family also declined after the zamindari abolition act. The mauza of Kalawari in Hathras district was founded by Ponias of Karil. Ramgopal Singh, a Thenua Jat of Karil was a famous wrestler turned rebel criminal during the British and post independence time. During the British time the house of Havileware Ponias was also famous.The village of Karil had a lot of gov jobs in the Military, Para military and armed forces. Unfortunately the village also has a high criminal rate and a market for illegal arms. A Few houses of Dagur and Bharangars Jat also inhabits Karil. Jatavs, Dhimars, Bhagels and Brahmans also have a decent population. All the Banias of Karil have migrated to Raya, Mursan, Mathura or Sadabad due to the instability that was in the village because of the fighting between Bohre and Haveliware family during the 70s, 80s and 90s.Ram Kumar son of Hardam Singh Thenua ( hailing from the Thenua Thakurs of Garhi) of Karil had joined Rashtriy Rifles and became a martyr in Kupwara area of J
