OverView of Bagbahar
Bagbahar was the one of the important place in the history of the region. It was under Udaipur kingdom a princely state during British period and it was the station for hunting and recreation of king of Udaipur kingdom. Dharamjaigarh was the capital town of the state. Presently it is the Revenue Circle head quarter under Jashpur district of Chhaatisgarh, consisting 75 villages. Police station of Bagbahar is old as its district headquarter police station. Bagbahar is on the plains of river Maini and Ibb wich are tributaries of Mahanadi. Forest surrounded to the area is mixed forest with sal, (sorea robusta sagon (tictona grandis), Aam(Magifera indica), Mahua(madhulika indica) Palas, Babul(Agidirecta indiaca) fauna species like Fox, wild boar, wild hen, Dove, Columba lebia, Penguilin, Deer, Varanus and area is specially famous as NAGLOK, meaning is the world of snake for its variety of snake species, Crait is main killer species, more than dozen of deaths occurs every rainy season because of snake bite.Nearest Airports: Jharsuguda (Odisha) then three hours journey by road to Bagbahar. Ranchi ( Jharkhand) then six hours by road to Bagbahar and Raipur (Chhattisgarh) then ten hours journey by road to Bagbahar. Network of buses are available and car and vehicles can also be hired.

Ganesh utsav (festival) in the month of August and famous mela in the month of February was main attraction. Ancient Siva temple is important religious shrine. Bagbahar was probably hub of Jain followers as Statues of Jain tirthankars are found at Sarana (Forest God) at Bagbahar Town and in adjoining village Rede which dates back to 11th century. Another small sculpure is found in Village Kukurbhuka which seems a priest of Eastern countries worship system. An ancient Jagannath Temple is situated at nearby hemlet Basantpur. Local people says the Jagannatha temple was made in 19th century. Some remains of Jamidaari also can be seen at Bagbahar. Above remain needs systematic studies to establish archeological and historical facts about the region. Evidences of Jain tirthankar from 11th century and continuity of cultural heritage and legacy of people of Bagbahar region are very significant in Cultural history of Jashpur Chattisgarh. Bagbahar is surrounded with many tourism destinations i, e, HathGada (A historical village where evidences of Shaivism and Vaishavism can be seen at bank of Maini River) 10KM. Farsabahar ( Typically known as Core of Naglok area) at 13 KM. Tamta (Known for Symbolic Prehistoric writing on Rock) at 25 KM. Bagicha a Hill station (60KM) occupied by Hill Korwas a Particular Vulnerable Tribe (PVTG) and a Wild life sanctuary in which at Rengle forest village a prehistoric Rock Art is made by local tribe. There is Kailash Gupha (Caves) in which Saint Gahira Guru enlightened and extended education of Bhakti and sanskrit to his disciples. Now there is a sanskrit college and Kailash Gupha is maintained by local people and administration.
Kunkuri is an older town 40 KM away from Bagbahar, place is famous for Roman Catholic Church and rich cultural heritage of Oraon tibal group of the region. Patthalgaon is the modern and economic hub situated around 32 KM from Bagbahar towards Raigarh. District headquarter Jashpur is around 90KM towards Ranchi the state capital of Jharkhand.
The platue is famous for its simple and culturally reach societies .Kawnra, Oraons, Bhuniya and Birhors are tribal groups residing in this area.Other people Brahmin Baniya, OBCS, SCc population are also there. Karma, Domkech and sua are famous folk dances and age old living tradition in the region. Out of many personalities Pt.Chakradhar Sharma was Odiya theater writer, Sh Laljeet Singh was MLA two time was from the Zamidar family of Bagbahar. Sh. Ram Prasad Gupta was economically sound and soft hearted man. He was the man from social services and promoted educational activities.
Now the dynamics of development and impact of globalization can be clearly seen at Bagabhar. It is an educational hub as a Government College is there with many graduate courses. There is a Primary Health Center and two public banking units a Central Bank of India and a Gramin Bank is working.
