OverView of Gopalpura
Gopalpura State (District Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh) is a branch
of the ancient Indurkhi state. Gopalpura State is situated 790 South
of UP. This state is spread over more than 1000 square miles and has Rampura
State on its North, Datia State (Konch Tehsil) on its South, Jalaun Tehsil
(Maratha State) on its East and Gwalior State on its West side.
Climate and Vegetation:
In summers (April to July) the state experiences very hot
weather with hot air and dust storms blowing through the season. From July to
October the state experiences rainfall. Its extremely cold from November to
February. The state experience three seasons Summer, Rainy and Spring. There
grows trees like Peepal, Banyan, Sheesham etc. The fruits grown here are Guava,
Lemon and Mangoes. There is almost 2000 square acres of forest adjoining the
state. The wild life in this forest comprises of wild animals such as Panthers,
Cheetas, Deers, Boars, Blue Buffalos etc.
Soil and Crops:
There are 3 crops grown in this region, namely Rabi (Wheat,
Grams, Alsi, Lahi etc). Kharif (Jwar, Bajra, Corn, Moong, Pulses) and Jayad
(Jackfruit, Watermelon, Brinjal, Lauki).
The main river of this state is Pahuj which flows
consistently throw out the year. There is a branch of this river called
Bhadaiyya which flows on the south of the state. Most of the farmers
grow vegetables on the bank of these rivers which are then sold
locally and markets of villages such as Madhogarh, Jalaun, Orai, Mihona, Lahar
(Bhind) etc.
Animals and Birds:

Life: Panthers, Cheetas, Chinkaras, Wolves, Deers, Rabbits, Jackals, Blue Bulls
etc.
2. Domesticated
Animals: Cows, Buffalos, Calves, Horses, Camels, Donkeys, Sheep, Goats etc.
3. Birds:
Peacocks, Koel, Parrots, Patridges, Doves, Pigeons, Crows, Eagles and those
birds which stay in water, such as, Ducks, Surkhab, Cranes etc.
In other creatures, animals such as crocodiles, tortoise,
crabs, various types of fishes etc are found here.
Religions:
The state enjoys harmonious relations of all religions.
There are both Hindu & Muslims religion community who live here. There are
also followers of Kabir, and some are also Vaishnos All celebrate various
festivals in the region.
Castes:
In Hindus there are Kshatriyas (Rajputs), Brahmins, Vaishya,
Mahajans, Kayasth, Cobblers, Gardners, Hair cutters, Washermen, Tailors etc. In
Muslims there are Sheikhs, Mirzas, Ansaris etc.
Lineage / History of Formation of the State:
The state has its lineage from the generations out of Kush
who wasborn as one of the sons of Lord Shri Ramchandra ji. The ancestry can be
traced to 131 generations. The state was ruled by the Indurkhi descendents,
which are the 19th descendents
of Kush. Thereafter the descendents / rulers were Alam Rao Gopalpura - 1631,
Dalpat Rao Ju Deo - 1662, Parshuram Ju Deo - 1679, Mukat Rao Ju Deo,
Khadag Rao Ju Deo - 1694, Champat Rao Ju Deo - 1715, Harsingh Rao Ju Deo,

Occupation:
The main occupation of people here is farming and animal
rearing. There are also some section of population that is occupied in trading
such as wheat, jiggery, ghee etc. The Brahmins are occupied with conducting
religious ceremonies and prayers in the temples.
Dress:
People generally wear Dhoti, kurta or loose payjamas,
sherwani, safa (head gear). Ladies wear lehnga, chunnri, sarees, blouse ,
duppatta etc. They also wear colourfull glass bangles or bracelets.
Language:
The local language / dialect of the Gopalpura state is
Bundelkhandi. The language has the essence of respect on one side and valour of
braveness on the other. The middle class families speak a mixture of hindi and
urdu.
Festivals:
The main festivals celebrated in Gopalpura state are
Dusshera, Deepawali, Holi, Shravan, Navratri, Idul-Fitr, Moharram etc. These
festivals are harmoniously celebrated by people of all castes and creed.
Fairs:
The state holds mainly two fairs, one at the time of Shravan
and the other during Makar Sankranti where shopkeepers, various artists,
religious saints come from faraway places. In these days all households place
hosts to around 10 guests. These fairs go on for 3 to 10 days.
Education:
There are primary and higher secondary schools in the State. The most prominent and best one being the K.P.S. Junior High School.
