OverView of Munak Kalan

Munak-kalan is a village of well educated and well settled people abroad - UK, Canada, America Australia Italy and Dubai. Before my birth in 1934 a school for girls was established here in entire tehsil Dasuya. Master Malluram Singh, my uncle, an educationalsit became the founding president of Govt. collage Tanda Urmar opened in 1951 which helped the area young people to get higher education. Baldev Singh defence minister of India and Kartar singh minister of Punjab at that time declared in meeting with influencial people to start a Govt. collage provided rupees one lakh is collected. Under the leadership of Master Malluram Singh jee it was done very early and collage was started in 1951. Munakkalan has a primary school and a high school. Village is build very near a mount (called khera locally.) From that mount as yougsters we used to collect varios types of beads. Also people found small and rthlarge earthern pots for storing foodgrains etc. It showed that old village was burried underneeth. Village has two gurudwaras and a historical gurudwara situated about one K.M north where sixth sikh Guru Hargobind Sahib Jee blessed the area after defeating Abdul Khan ( nabab of Jullundur nowJalandhar). Guru was accompanied by devouted wariors like Bhai BidhiChand and Bhai Bhana Jee and others. As per local history Guru jee was brushing his teeth in a morning with a DATAN and after that he put that DATAN on earth in two pieces which grew as big Talhi trees for which gurudwara is known. Guru jees horse was tied near by who with his hoof put aside a stone and water startted flowing. There are two wells (Baolies) for taking bath. Guru jee had blessed that who so ever will take bath after reciting name of WAHEGURU(God) will be blessed. The horse ran around and there became a large pond where bevoutees (sangat) used to take bath including my self. On ocasion of amavas (first day of desi month) langer was served along with Kher ( rice pudding) and peole did not use oxen on that day. I think I have written in much detail which can be edited suitable if desired. In fact village Munak Kalan and area is respectable , honourable and well settled due to educational institutions around the area . The Government college (named GKSG college now) was established in1951. This college was second Government college in our district Hoshiarpur . It was first opened in large building of Government High school Urmar Tanda and then moved to new present building. The college inspired the then young generation to get higher education and around ten students from my village joined the college including my self (Hardev Singh Saini son of Master Bhagwan Singh ) My other friends Harbhajan Singh Kabli, Mohinder Singh Kabli and Resham Lal and others joined the first session and graduated in 1955. Now (2020 June) we , myself Hardev Singh saini , Mohinder Singh Kabli, Harbhajan Singh Kabli are settled in Canada. I wish and pray that our young generation may get inspiration from these educational institutions and earn good name and honour for themselves, not locally but in the whole world where ever they may settle.
