OverView of Ratannagar

Ratannagar is a small village in the state of Tripura(India). This village name Ratannagar was derived from the ancient head of village name "Ratan Moni Tripura". After the death of this man, this village was named after his name. This village was situated at the countryside of the country India, where the border is just 3km away from the Bangladesh  international border. Topographically this village was formed at the valley of between two hills running from north to south direction. This village has only one principal river "Rima" and having several other small streams. This river run down the stream and joined Sharma river forming a big lake called "Dumbur Lake" Most of the people settled along this river. This River is a good source of fishing where fish are available during all season which come from the "Dumbur Lake".  during the month of July and August this village receive huge amount of rainfall where sometime this village is submerge under flood water. Most of the field cultivation and houses are destroyed by this River due to flood. The source of livelihood  of this village was shifting cultivation or known as juhm cultivation, where crop is harvested once in a year. Rice is common crop cultivated and besides this cash crops such as cotton and sesame are grown. Fruits such as melon, cucumber, etc. Vegetables such as pumpkin, ash guard, bottol guard. And other like chilli, millet, maize, etc. Are grown in the cultivation. Besides this shifting cultivation, field cultivation is also practice, most of the people did field cultivation because this village is having plain land formed from the river bed, Cultivation is very good since this village is having very fertile soil from river flood water. During the month of November and December vegetables Cultivation starts, where carrots, Reddish, cabbage, mustard seeds, sesame, maize, sweet potato, etc are grown. Wildlife is very rich in this village like, Wild Pig (boar), Deer, Rabbit, Bear, Monkeys, Jungle cock, Squirrel, Cobra, Python, etc. Most of this animals are hunted down for consumption, or else due to wild animals attacked on crops Cultivation. Wild Pig largely destroyed the crops land and monkeys destroy the shifting Cultivation crop land, This village people are commonly natural worshippers, where animals sacrifice is done,  and black magic is sometime practice. Peoples when get sick they did animal sacrifice and black magic is done to cure the illness, this is the cultural way of practicing religion in this village. GARIA puja is the most common festival of the village, it is done once in a year where animals such as chicken and goat are sacrifice in front of GARIA diety. In 2008 Christianity was introduced in this village under the Bishop Lumen Montero(C.S.C) and Fr.Jevan Kennedy.(S.V.D). It's a Roman Catholic denomination and church was built in this village where Christianity faith was practice from then. Most probably in 2012 Baptist Church is also introduced in this village. This village was linked now by three road connection such as Gandachera to Ratannagar, Raishyabari to Ratannagar, koilangshing toRatannagar. One junior basic school, and three primary school. No hospital, no hotels, no resorts, only Guest in house is practice. Most of the people living in this village are Tripuri community, or known as Tripura. Under the community of Tripura many clan such as Aslong, Naitong, Kewa. Lives in this village, Aslong is most common tribe in this village. Besides this Chakma tribe also lives in this village. Village market is on Wednesday, only once in a week, wherelse Thursday at Gandachera bazaar, and Saturday at Twichakma bazaar.
