OverView of Khemadei
The Amethiya get their name from the town of Amethi in eastern Uttar Pradesh. According to their traditions, they are a branch of the Gaur clan of Rajputs. They were initially settled in Kalinjar in Bundelkhand, from where under the leadership of Raipal Singh they emigrated to Awadh, around the twelfth century. The Amethiya were sent to suppress an uprising by the Bisen Rajputs. Raipal Singh was wounded in battle, and as reward was given the title the Rajah of Amethi by the Delhi Sultan. Towards the end of the 12th Century, three Amethiya brothers named Dingur Sah, Ram Singh and Lohang led their clan from Amethi to Jagdishpur, and drove out the local Muslims.
The Amethiya are now found mainly in the districts of Gorakhpur, Raibareli, Deoria and Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh. In Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh there are many villages like Karauta, Ropan Chhapra, Bankata Amethiya, Khemadei, Rawatpar Amethiya where this clan primarily exists.
