OverView of Mopidi
Mopidi is a small village in Uravakonda Mandal and Constituency of Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh in India that came into existence in the late sixteenth century AD during the rule of Vijayanagara Kings. Because of fertile lands people constantly settled there for centuries. Main source of livelihood is cultivation. Towards west of the village there are black cotton soil fields and to the east of the village there are red soil fields. Major rainfed Crops are Ground Nut / Peanut and Bengal Gram. Paddy, Vegetables and wide variety of crops are also cultivated due to abundant ground water source. Tungabhadra High Level Canal passes to the south of the village after 1960 AD. Rulers of Vijayanagara Empire and their subordinates built many reservoirs to increase the ground water and encouraged agriculture in the region. At present only the deteriorated barriers withstand as a proof of the past. Major Religions are Hinduism (94%), Radha Soami Faith (2%), Islam (2%) and Christianity (2%). Communal harmony is very high all throughout the ages. Old Shivalayam and new built (i.e. between 1993 to 1996) Ramalayam stand in the centre of the village.
