OverView of Takuriya
Takuriya is small village situated in the outskirts of the village Almora, the population of Takuriya is not much and comprises about 50 people,now you might be wondering how come a village has this meager population, it is because of the fact that many people have migrated to towns and other bigger cities.The climate is generally hot throughout the year, the village is yet to be developed and still lacks in basic infrastructure like transport, power, water,etc. The transport facility is only up to 'Dubrauli', which is 3 Km from Takuriya.
The village is rich in scenic beauty and is a treat for true nature lovers as the destination is unpolluted .
The main occupation is farming due to which the locals are able to make both ends meet and they are also dependent on the amount that their relatives send to them from towns and cities. Nainital is a hot tourist destination nearby so many locals venture to this GREAT place to try their luck and earn their livelihood.
Takuriya is famous for for it's GANGANATH Temple, people from far and wide come to offer prayers to this Temple, legend has it that Lord GANGANATH can fulfill wishes which arise in the heart, remembering Him, no matter in which part of the world the person is situated, when the wishes come true or are fulfilled, people come in and pay obeisance and offer a bell ( ghanti) to the temple. Every third year, a religious ceremony called JAGARAN(Jagar,as the locals call it) is held for eleven days in the Temple where the villages in the vicinity (Takuriya, Jaakh,Bhaita.Chauna) collaborate and take the responsibility to conduct the 'Jagaran'.
Takuriya is also quite close to the 'Lauli' village(3 Kms), which also happens to be the native place of the forefathers of the current Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, his father Pan Singh Dhoni was born in Lauli and also brought MSD for his head shave ceremony( Janeu) to Lauli before he was selected in the Indian team. May be MSD too prayed Ganganath ji and after that his fortune kissed his feet :-)
