wan tara singh is a village near border of pakistan. the residents of this village are buttar jats. this village was part of district lahore tehsil kasoor before 1947.wan tara singh is named after great fight between zakria khan army of 2200 with 21 singhs under jathedar tara singh fought in 1726.in this fight all 21 singhs received martyrdom after killing 350 mughals.baba tara singhs father baba gurda was an informer for guru gobind singh and later got martyrdom in village batwara near hoshiarpur while fighting for baba banda singh bahadur.

History of Vaan Tara Singh Village. Some 500 years ago, three Buttar Jatt brothers, by the name of Tola, Roopo and Saida, came from the village of Itchogill (Lahore), settled down, in the southern portion of Maajha Region. Three Pattis (Wards), are named after the brothers. 

During the time of Guru Arjan Dev Jee, the Fifth Sikh Guru, the Buttar Jatts became Sikhs. Chagha Buttar. from Patti Tola Ki, from Buttar Jatt Chaudhri Family, was a devout Sikh, during the time of Guru Har Rai Sahib Jee, the Seventh Sikh Guru. Chagha Buttar, had three sons, Mahi, Gurdas, Jaita.

Gurdas Buttar (Gurdas Singh, after taking Khande de Pahul), was married in the neighbouring village of Rajoke, in the family of Bhullar Jatt Zamindars. Gurdas Singh, had five Sons, Tara Singh, Bhag Singh, Sangat Singh, Nathu Singh, Kathu Singh. 

Baba Tara Singh Buttar, the eldest of Bhai Gurdas Singh, Son was a famous Sikh Shaheed, who along with Baba Malli Singh and Baba Gurbakash Singh, Sandhu Jatts of Padhana, Baba Badal Singh and Baba Bhim Singh, Sandhu Jatts of Rattoke, Baba Baghel Singh and Baba Amar Singh, Dhillon Jatts of Village Bhusse, Baba Megh Singh, Shergill Jatt of Village Madar Mathra Bhagi, Baba Bulaka Singh, Sekhon Jatt of Village Sangna  and Baba Lakhmir Singh, Sandhu Jatt, and many more Sikhs totalling, 21 attained Martyrdom, while fighitng against the evil tyrant Mughal Jaffar Beg, the Governor of Patti Pargana. 

The Buttar Jatt Sikh Sardars and Zamindars of Wan Village, joined the armies of Sikh Misls, in the latter part of the 18th Century and later Maharaja Ranjit Singh Period, early 19th Century. During the British Raj, The Family were still influential in the area. One of the Havelies of the Buttar Sikh Sardars still stands in the village.
