Chokli is a historical place in Kannur. Famous Chinese traveler and physician Chok Lee lived at this place. In ancient times Chokli  was known as Mara Naadu. Mara means Tree and Nadu means Place. Later this place renamed as Chokli ( Choklee ) as a tribute to Chok Lee. 
Tippu Sulthan travelled through this place named this place as Choka Halli which later on became Chokli.
