Kelwa was the second class chief thikana of the Jaitamalot clan of Rathore Rajputs in Mewar state, the last Thakur of Kelwa was Hari Singh Rathore. The Rathore Rajputs of Patiya near Bhinder also have their origin from Kelwa, they are the descendants of Thakur Akhe Singh Rathore of Kelwa, this Jagir was given to them by the Thakur of Kanor. The Rajputs and Bramhins are most prominent community,The main income source of this village is white marble. The famous temple of Ambika Mata is also located here. And the famous Andheri Auri is also located here which is a temple of Terapanth sect of Jainism. It is believed that the first Acharya of Terapanth, Acharya Shri Bhikshu and the second Yuvacharya Shri Bharmal ji stayed here. There is a cave here which leads to a lake in Rajsamand. That 'tunnel' was used by the Thakurs of Kelwa in olden times, currently it is closed.
