The estate was ruled continuously by a single family belonging to the Kushwaha (Koiri) community. The Bhatkeshri Estate controlled a very large area spread over more than 58,000 acres of agricultural land, along with villages and settlements covering around 18,000 acres of residential area. Administratively, the estate extended over dozens of large villages, hundreds of small villages, and several hundred hamlets across the Saran region.Babu Ganesh Singh was the most influential zamindar (local ruler) of the Bhatkeshri Estate. He was well known in the early 20th century for his administrative discipline and strong authority in the region. Despite his vast landholdings, he was locally remembered for a simple lifestyle and holding administrative meetings in open community spaces. In the 1940s, the management of the estate was transferred to his son, Babu Chhathu Singh Koiri. Around 1950, a large portion of the Bhatkeshri Estate lands was donated, which led to the effective end of zamindari control in this area. As a result, villages including Bhat Kesar became free from estate administration.Remains of the old Bhatkeshri Estate haveli are still present in the surrounding area and are remembered locally as an important symbol of the region’s historical heritage.
