The main panchayat area becomes the mythical city of Mathura, the river Ong turns into the Yamuna, and the nearby village of Sauthkhandi is transformed into Gopapura, the childhood home of Lord Krishna.The festival commences with the dethroning of Emperor Ugrasena by the tyrannical Kansa and concludes with the death of Kansa at the hands of Lord Krishna. Throughout the festival, various episodes from Krishna's life are enacted by talented actors, drawing in thousands of devotees and tourists from across the country.
