Sonsa was founded named after Sohanpal a ruler who lived during 11th century and conquered a large tract of land from the Kirars. Soon the area fell to the Delhi Sultan and ultimately Mughals. Sonsa formed a part of Mangotla/Magora pargana and gained famed during the later half of 17th century when it became the stronghold of Banasrsi Kuntel. Banarasi with Sukha of Sonkh and Jagman Singh conquered Mangotla from the Mughals. The pargana was divided into Sonkh and Sonsa pargana. Banarasi gained control of Sonsa. He built a fort here and also at Borpa. He with the help of Sukha/Sukhpal of Sonkh conquered pargana Chaumuhan, Ol and a part of Sahar. Banarsi was a famous rebel and caught the Mughals at the Battle of Sonkh, At the Siege of Rajgarh and Rahiri and in the Battle to Baswa.
