                                                    RENUKA LAKE

Renuka Lake which covers an area of about 3214 meters has scaled to the heights of fame as one of the largest and beautiful lake in the Himachal Pradesh region. Located in the Sirmaur district, its scenic glamour is unparalled and must be experienced and relished personally.  This striking beauty of Himachal is one of the most iconic symbols of our country’s tourism.

The lake also has some mythical tale associated with it. The lake is said to be the embodiment of Renuka Devi, wife of sage Jamadagni. Legends say that the goddess plunged into this lake in order to save herself from the attack of Sahasarjuna, the demon. Later god brought her out of the water and restored back her life. Close by there is another small lake dedicated to the great sage Parashuram who was the son of Renuka Devi.

Presence of  Renukaji temple and various other shrines by the side of the lake attributes the devotional aspect. People from far flung areas throng the lake to witness and participate in the colorful mela held in the month of November.

The region dotted with steep dunes, panoramic valleys and green woods is a perfect gateway to relish a wonderful trip in the envelope of nature’s majesty. The lake offers the pleasure of enjoying boating in its cucumber cool waters while feeding on nature’s invaluable gift. Mini zoo and sanctuary located close by provides a golden chance to the visitors to view the predators and herbivorous animals in their natural and appropriate environment.
