OverView of Nagandur
General
belief among the villagers was that the name of the village originally derived
from Tamil name (Namam + Voor) Namam, which means Holy sign or mark worn in the
fore-head of Vishnu workshippers or devotees so called Vaishnara. Voor means
Village. While few others believe that name was originated from Tamil name
(Naaga + Voor) Naaga, which means Cobra. Voor means Village. Neverless, all
agree with uniqueness of this village name.
It
is placed on Villupuram District, Gingee Taluk, under Vallam block. It is
located exactly 15.6 Kilometers distance from its Historical taluk town Gingee.
And 24.6 Kilometers far from its district main town Villupuram. Frequency
transport service is lacking still date, however bus service are available from
Villupuram, Vikravandi, Tindivanam, Rettanai and Gingee.
Nagandur

nagandur, Thalavalapattu and Marur. Total resident population were about
6,33,647 (approximately 6 Lakhs) including childrens as per recent Census -2011

peanut (dry land) are the main crops cultivated here. Some minor crops
cultivated here are Sugarcane, cotton and sesame.
Perumal
temple or koil in Nagandur village is good old and well known temple among
neighbouring villages. It was constructed well and crossed more than 70 years
of old. It has very unique features such as

direction facing temple main entrance.
2. North
direction facing Moolavar, a single idol consists of two God and one Goddess such
as Sri Ram at center, Sri Seetha Devi to far right and Sri Lakshman to far left
side. This north direction, which is said to be the direction of God Guberan
(the Lord of wealth).
3. East
direction facing Sri Anjaneya or Sri Hanuman, which is said to be direction of
Sun God.
4. Especially
Vadakalai, which means U shaped naama sculpture in stone wall around the
temple.
5. This temple is non-government or private
temple.
Villagers
celebrates all festival, especially Tamil New Year, Pongal, Deepavali or Diwali
and other religious festivals also.
