Tahir Mansoor Mir ( Archaeologist) Muqamishahwali is a deep rooted historical village of district kupwara which is located in the southeastern direction of district headquarters of almost 5kms in the lap of a dense and lush green forest compartment area. This village is always the attraction of tourism throughout the year. About the location of village, this beautiful village is surrounded by the lush green forests making it a crescent shaped valley.Its north and north east portion which is occupied by a dense forest areas connect it with the Lolab valley through Shumriyal, Sogam and other villages of Lolab. The eastern part connects it with Anderhama and Chayapati villages and the southern part connects Drugmullah.This village has borrowed its name from the famous saint lived in 16th century AD known as Zati Shahwali sahib (RA.). Muqam is the urdu meaning of a place and Shahwali is the name of a saint, who according to oral and historical texts have converted the Hindus of his time into fold of islam. These historical facts are evident from the rich archaeological material in the form of Terracottas, sculptures and other astrological materials hidden in the cultural stratas of this village. About zati Shahwali , a nephew of Ali shahi chack (1570-78 AD.), was a militry commander of chack army who was deputed at ancient and medieval uttermachipora left his post and became a wandering dervish. Zati Shahwali (RA.) was educated at Trehgam, Tikker and Regipora which served as the seat of administration in between 14-17th century AD. According to the author his father namely Rakum Din had come from the Bukhara shareef with his followers, when reached at the famous spring of Trehgam enqied about the sickness and diseases of kings sister of the time, who later became his wife. This saint Father of Zati Shahwali took some water from shivnag at Trehgam and asked the king and kings sister to drink it for 7 days. After 7 days the signs of disease were no more prevalent and the king ordered to find the wandering dervish whom they found him at a another village known as Gotangoo. The saint was brought to kings office at Trehgam and was married to his sister. The village of Gotangoo was given a gagir to the newly married couple where they are rested in peace in the shrine located near the mound at local graveyard.
