Village Bainan is 6 km north of Bagnan Railway station on the South Eastern Section,46 km from Howrah station. On the East is river Damodar.Dam is there to protect the village from flood water during monsoon.
The village has better facilities & amenities than other near by villages.Other villages suffer from floods frequently but baring once in 70s there is no history of floods in Bainan.Because of that Bainan population is much more than other adjoining villages.
Bainan School is more than 100 years old. Post Office,Markets,etc have started long back.
Main occupation of the villagers are of course cultivation of rice.Jute,flower,betel leaves & lot of vegetables are also grown in the Damodar river beds.
Once this Damodar was full of waters & big big country boates were sailing through the river carrying jutes & salts.During those periods many families migrated to Bainan from nearby Khalna,Jaipur,etc.to do the salt business.Salt was a scarce commodity at that time.
The village has both Hindu & Muslim population about 60/40 ratio.
Durga Puja,Kali Puja,Saraswati Puja & Gajon during Choitro Sankranti are the main festivals.In East Bainan,Roy Para,age old Brahma Puja is also to be mentioned.It is unique,held in the month of Boisakh.
Bainan is an educated village.Number of educated persons are more in Bainan than other adjoining villages.
The ex Chief Justices of Calcutta High Court,Syed Nasim Ali & his son Syed Sadat Ali Masood belong to this village.
