Koil Thirumaakalam is a beautiful and traditional village it is located in poonthottam to karaikal route 3 km from Poonthottam Railway station and bus stop, 18 km to karaikal. Koil Thirumaakalam is a village panchayat which consists of three villages namely Pandaravadai Thiurmaahalam, Koil Thiurmaahalam , Andakudi and Vaarakuppam. There are nearly 2000 people living in the villages. The speciality of the village is one big temple is located here that name is MAHAAKALANADHASWAMI Temple. It was built in the12th Centuary AD by Kulathunga Cholan and one of the anoter speciality isVAIKASI VISAKA YAGAM which is celebrateing three days during this festival Thiruvarur Thiagaraja Temple doors are closed . Anoter temples in the villages are ATCHAM THEERTHA VINAYAGAR and CHELLA MUTHU MARRIAMMAN TEMPLE are famous one. Thirunallar SANEESWARAN Temple-Thiruppaampuram RAAHU-KETHU Temple, Koothanoor SARASWATHI AMMAN Temple, Thiruppuhaloor, Thirukkannapuram, Ambakarathoor KAAKI KOIL are surrounded by this village. The physiographic feauture of the village is full of agriculture land , paddy and sugarcane is the main crop. RIVER ARASLAR passes the village it support irrigation facility. Near by railway station is poonthottam from 3 km.
