Mahishi is a Mythological place, it is a sacred place inside and has Sri Sri Sathyasanda Theeertha moola Brindavan. Is is also said that he is amsha of Sri Raghavendra swamiji. There is a math run by Sri Uttaradi Math. A very sacred place and very powerful. if any one wants peace and happiness one should go and have darshan of Sri sri Sathyasanda Brindavan. It s also believved that during Ramayan time, Sri Anjaneya had a disappoitment with Sri Rama and Seetha matha and had gone in disguise. Sri Rama came in search of Sri Anjaneya and foound one buffelo getting up from river Thunga. Buffello is called MAHISHI in sanskrit and hence the name for the place. Since Anjaneya cannot leave withoout Sri rama he planted one Ashwatha Vruksha and was worshiping it as Ashwathnarayana. Even today you can see this tree in Mahishi.
