"Palur" gets its name by the ooru-devata PALURAPPA meaning, Lord Shiva who is the prevailing deity of the village, where as kuladevata is Lord Venkateshwara. It is well known fact that in Coorg district the main deities are  Palurappa, Iggutappa and Angalatamme.

FESTIVALS:
Goddess Parvati is worshipped with great reverence. Once a year, during April Paloor-habba is celebrated with all grandeur, when Lord Shiva is bathed, decorated, worshipped for three days at the village temple., followed by colourful Bhoota-Kola, devotees take part in walking the hot coals, free meals and lot of other festivities where thousands participate. The programme ends with huge feast for all. Interesting things are that both Hindus and Muslims take part in the programme and see it to the end.
