There is a serene and ancient temple of Draupati Amman said to have been constructed some 200 years before. Annual celebration of Draupati Amman Festival last for 18 days. This festival bring vivid memory of Mahabarath. In all 18 days, preaching of Mahabarath is professed by eminent priest / lecturer. Apart from this, for 10 nights drama is organised viz., Therukoothu in Tamil, depicting life of people in Mahabarath times. This festival is culminated with Fire Walk (Theemithippu) on 18th day.
Balapuram village has one elementary school and one Government Higher Secondary School.
