Munirka is located in South Delhi. Situated on the Outer Ring Road, the village was once the outer fringe of Metropolitan Delhi in the south. The south boundary of Metropolitan Delhi has now extended several kilometers beyond the outer ring road. This has left Munirka surrounded, rather engulfed, by urban sprawl. The core of the village is now enveloped by residential colonies like Rama Krishna RKP Puram, Vasant Vihar and various clusters of multistoried DDA flats and institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Institute of Family Welfare, a five star hotel and an upmarket commercial centre. With a total area of 1527 acres, Munirka is a rather sprawling village In 1961 the total number of houses in the village was 1161 and households 1170, which means nine households lived in shared , either as joint family, or as tenants. According to the villagers, the total number of houses has increased to 2500. A few houses had beautifully carved ethnic wooden doors, In 15th century Munirka name was munim khan, munim khan is a zimidar of minirka.
