Chungtia is an Ao village in Nagaland ,India. It is 16 km north-west ofMokokchung . The Mokokchung-MarianiHighway passes through its eastern corner.It is located at an altitude of 1,335 ft abovesea level.The suburb of Sabangya and the Alibavillage form a continuous settlement areaalong with Chungtia. According toDr.E.W.Clark's accounts, when he first setfoot in Mulong village in 1872, Mulong,which was under the protectorate ofChungtia, had to seek permission from thelatter for his stay which was promptlyallowed by Chungtia. Subsequently, he wenton to spread Christianity all overNagaland.The cultural festivities of the Ao Naga,Moatsu and Tsungremong , are celebratedby the villagers in grandeur. The Chungtiawar dance is one of the most macho wardances which is a treat to watch.In the local memory, it enjoys some honouras one of the few Ao villages that has neverbeen defeated; even today Chungtias recalltheir head hunting days with pride. Today,the stories of those brave warriors circulatethrough folk songs, dances and stories.While you are there, you may also enjoyglimpse of its past while visiting the LogDrum situated on a hill top.
