Vilangulam(Vilankulam-Combined with the names of Vila tree and the Gnanavari spring, the place came to be known as Vilankulam) is a beautiful village located in Peravurani Taluk (Tanjore Dist) . 2000 years old Akshaya Pureeswarar/ Abhiviruthi Nayagi temple is located here. This is one of very few places where Lord Saneeswara is gracing in the temple with His consorts Jeshta and Mandha in wedding form in the name of Aadhibruhat Saneeswarar. This is one of the star temple for Poosam(in Tamil)/Pushyami(in Sanskrit & Telugu)/ Pooyyam(in Malayalam)/ Pushya and it is believed that Poosyam starrers visit this temple and pray Lord Saneeswarar their planatery afflictions will be removed. Also its believed that those handicapped and those suffering from leg pain and those facing obstacles in wedding proposals throng the temple for remedy. One from Pattukottai take bus that goes to Ramanathapuram /Rameshwaram or Kattumavadi. This bus travels in ECR(East Coast Road). You need to get off at vilankulam road(There will be a walk to this temple about 1.25km) .Other way is to reach Peravurani and take a bus to Vilankulam( Bus frequencies are 5-7 times a day and runs every 3 hours).
