OverView Of Lokur

Many years ago, there use to stay a few families on the bank of one small valley. That area was mainly of white soil. The first family of this village were a Brahmin family, whose family name is Lokur. (The same name was given to the village when it is fomrally declared as a village and included in the Athani taluka.). Later, during the British ruling time, there is family named 'Bubnale' migrated to this village from another village called Bubnal which was located on the bank of Krishna river due to family partition. This family while migrating came through bullock carts filled with lot of heavy pots filled with gold, silver and money, which they realised by selling there land in there previous village. The present villagers of lokuer have given this migratingfamily a new name called 'Gadage' (which means a pot) by seeing that , this family is bringing lot of pots alongwith them. Thus, this gadage family has migrated to Lokur and well settled after few years by buying many acres of land from the villagers nad have also build 3 to 4 big houses which are called as wade in kannada. Each of such wade is a multi storied having almost 10-15 rooms with individual well inside for water.

Lokur has given good talents to the nation. It has produced many Chartered Accountants, Lawyers, masters and Engineers. It also contributed to the Indian army. The Gadage and Bhagat families are the biggest families in this village. It has got many people having leadership qualities. Shivanand College kagwad has a great contribution to the success of many Lokur based students. In the recent past Lokur is completely irrigated. The first credit must go to Gadage family members, there after many others follows. Most of the villgers have shifted there base from village to there farm houses, due to water problems in the village. But now there is no water problem, hence we can look forward for good developments and more migration of people to the village from there farms.
