As per the story told by elders the original name of gangavaram is Kattubothula Gangavaram. Gangavarm is under the jurisdiction of GURAZALA(Part of palanadu).Nayakuralu Nagamma was a renowned statesperson and minister to king, Nalagama, the ruler of Palanadu in Guntur District. She is one of the key characters along with Bramha Naidu in the epic war - Palnati Yudham (War of Palnad) set in the medieval Andhra Pradesh, a southern state of India. She can be listed as one of the most powerful women in the medieval times in India and in the world. She is the devotee of shaiva and where as Brahmanayudu is the devotee of vaishnava. Main in this as pect both grew wild against each other.To defeat Brahmanayudu in cock fight, she hatched a plan to grown up cock with a certain mystical syllable considered as preservative like as armour(Kavacham-or an amulet)She identified Gangvaram village where there are Kattubothulu(charmers)living and are fit persons to make such type activity. in this village on those days more upper caste are devotees of shaivas and kattubothulu (Charmers-Mantragallu-Chetabadi) also devotees of Shaiva.
