Village:-BORDA is a semi urban area with a population
approximately 5000 in the district of kalahandi, Orissa. This village is situated
at the strategic point of Kalahandi-Bolangir border area. Borda is located at a
distance about 40 Kms, from the district head quarter Bhawanipatna on the
Bhawanipatna- Khariar state highway(SH-16) which directly connects to
Raipur(Capital city of Chhatisgarh) & Visakhapatnam(One of the major port
in eastern coast of Andhra Pradesh, India). Borda is just about 420 Kms. from
Capital Bhubaneswar,225 Kms. from Raipur, & 310 Kms. from Visakhapatnam and
nearest Railway station is Titlagarh which is about 26 Kms. from
Borda. Geographical location of Borda is at 20.09'699"N latitude and
82.97'665"E longitude. Since British-Raj System, Borda has
developed as educational and cultural heart-centre of Milky Praganas (Milky-One
of the sub caste of Kandh tribe)of Kalahandi. Now Borda has emerged as one of
the major educational and commercial hub of North-Western corner of Kalahandi
district of Orissa. In 1889 British Administration opened a Primary school with
hostel facility, from that day on wards education has great impact on the life of
people of Borda. After Independence govt. has established a Gram
Panchayat,Office of Agricultural Extension Officer, (16 Bed) Community Health
Centre, Telephone Exchange, 33/11KV Electric Sub-Station, Sub-Post
Office, Co-Operative Society, Police-Outpost, Revenue Inspector's Office &
Revenue Inspector's Bunglow, Vertenairy Dispensary, Bank of India, Utkal Gramya
Bank etc. In 1960 with the initiative of people of Borda a Middle English
School, 1963-Janata High School, 1986-Chandrika Jain Junior
College, 1996-Chandrika Jain (+3) Degree College, 1999-Saraswati Sisu Mandir were
established. Borda has a weekly HAAT held every Sunday which gathers about 25,000
people. This village is full of temples like Jagannath temple, Kapileswar Mahadev
temple, Radha-Krishna Matha, Village deity Dukuri Budhi & Gangadi temples
etc. After long time Borda got a fly river
bridge on river Udanti which is the life line of this area, after completion of
this bridge Borda will be the main connecting centre between Dharamgarh and
Titlagarh sub-divisions. Considering the economic importance & heavy
traffic, Orissa Govt. has sanctioned 105 crore under Orissa State Road
Extension Programme funded by World Bank for widening the single lane road to
double lane road(Khariar-Bhawanipatna, 68 Kms) which will give a major boom to
infrastructural development of this area. The educational institutions in Borda
have produced so many brilliant scholars that students from Borda have studied
even institute like Indian Institute of Technology, some students from this
village working in many global companies with high pay package and some of them
are working in Govt. sector holding top class positions. PROFESSION:-About
40% of people of Borda are engaged in Agriculture & rest 60% of people are
in the service industry & commercial actives. Rice,Ground nut, Moong are
the main crops cultivated here .Most of the lands in this village are
unirrigated. Frequent droughts one of the major challenges which is the main
barrier for the economic upliftment of the farmers of this village. People of
Borda demanding for a barrage on the river Udanti for the permanent solution of
this drought-prone area. Due to this frequent drought so many people of Borda
are migrating themselves to Chhatisgarh, Gujarat, Mumbai region for earning
bread & butter. District Administration has taken necessary steps to
solve the problem of potable water in this village. In 1999 District Public Health
Department started water supply project through pipeline from the river Udanti, from that day people of Borda getting sufficient drinking water. Major problem
in this village is poor street road & drainage system is also pathetic. As
this village is expanding rapidly, proper planning of houses & roads should
be implemented for the benefits of in habitants. People of Borda facing lot of
problem for going to Bhawanipatna Block & Tehsil for a small work also, as
Bhawanipatna is about 40 Kms. from Borda which is petty expensive. People of
Borda need a Block & Tehsil for this locality. The youth of Borda are very energetic.From
1967 Borda Yubak Sangh has been playing a major role in all youth actives like
Blood donation Camp,Conducting Cultural programmes,Football & cricket
tournament etc.People celebrate Durga puja, Holi, Rath Yatra, Ram Navami, Jhulana
Poornima with pomp & great enthusiasm. Milky Utsab is also being celebrated
by the people of Borda for maintaining brotherhood among people as well as regional
