Patonda is the place in Amalner tehasil.In years ago it has five gates so that it is called as Patonda.In the village there are proofs of five gates till now but in vanishing state. There are many ancient temples in the village i.e. Mahiji Devi Temple, Shri Datta Temple, Dakshinmukhi Hanuman Temple,Mahadev Temple and etc. There are 2 primary schools,1 secondary school,1 junior college and 1 English medium school.The village has a PHC .It has 3 Granthalayas. It is the village with five entries (Doors). One door is near the Shri Datta Mandir Temple( North gate),second gate is on south side opposite to Amalner-chopda road,it is behind Shri Muthes house.Third gate (west gate) was at varachapura near Ex Z.P. member Shri Vinayak Devaji Birari's house and fourth gate was situated on south east side near Dr. Deore's House.There is no trace of Fifth gate.3rd and 4th gates are almost in vanishing state.The wells were the main source of drinking water. There were about 12-15 wells in the village out of which some 4-5 are live.It is said that the well near the bus stand and the Lord MahadevTemple was build by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar.It is also said that near the Mahadev Temple there was the mahta long ago where two sadhus from north india used to live.
Years ago there were two small temples one in north and one in East of the Mahadev temple which are belived the samadhi of the sadhus. Nowadays the samadhi temple of sadhu in the north side of the temple is in good condition.Similarly there are two samdhi mouments which are said to be the samadhis of two Gosavi's are observed in the west of the Aanganwadi near Daksinamukhi hanuman Mandir.
