Rajkot and area around it was ruled by Mogul suba from Junagadh, conquered from Thakore Ranmalji Jadeja. Ranmalji reconquered the territory in 1732. Makhavad was founded by his son, Akherajji approximately in 1750, 250 years ago. Originally the village was founded across the river from the present location, but shifted to present site, because that land was infested with under-ground colonies of ants. Until 1960s, it had a beautiful "padar" with many trees. Entrance from the opposite side, from Ribda- Lodhika Road had trees and large watering basin for cattles and horses.
