Batergam, a village about 3 km from town centre on Kupwara-Chowkibal road, is a prominent village of Tehsil Kupwara.it is guarded by pine forest from north and towards south are the paddy fields and village Gushi. Till 1990 both muslims and Pandits used to live together in friendly atmosphere. Local language is Kashmiri. Nearest colleges are Govt. Degree College (Boys) Bohipora, Kupwara and Govt. Womens College Sulkoot Kupwara. In former college Arts, Science, Commerce, Computer Applications are taught while in latter only Arts subjects are taught. Nearest hospital is Govt. Sub-District Hospital kupwara. Marble factories like Soura Marblr, Alson marbles, Khanday marbles etc used to be operational till 1990 in this village.
