Tahir Mansoor Mir (Archaeologist)  Trehgam is a deep rooted historical village of district kupwara, situated in the western direction of district  headquarters of about 9 kms., located in the lap of oldest series of Himaliyan mountains.  These Himaliyan mountains series dates back to the ordovician period ,which are known for its classical limestone with whitish bands and the reported aquatic fossil species. The entire area in the north and north west is occupied by the pleistocene deposits known as kerewas with alluvial and lacustrine deposits.  The southern part of this village has a vast fertile agricultural land capable of producing both khareef and rabi crops, but is mostly used for rice cultivation. This village has been the attraction of ancient settlers right from the inception of early historical periods of kashmir history.  But unfortunately its ancient name is not known. We don't find its mention in the Chronicle of the land known as Rajtarangni, neither has been mentioned by foreign writers like Bates, Vigne, wikefield etc. But the uncertainty must be ignored and the requirement was only archaeological exploration . Any how Trehgam has served as the melting pot of ancient settlers right from the introduction of Buddhism in the valley, which is evident from the existence of buddhist sculptures preserved in the pound of shivnag just close to highway. This destination has been the attraction of all people both Hindus and Muslims, with a beautiful mosque and a Temple existing close to one another. Trehgam has served as the hub of administration right from the inception of karkotas in the 7th- 8th century AD.  During this period the village has served as the watching tower of the entire area of utter of kamraz belt, which is evident from the existence of karkota fort just situated at the upper reaches of the dense forest compartment locally known as pandav masjid.  It also served a link between shardha and utter ,again evident from the classical inscription discovered by the author, which dates back 7th -8th century AD. written in shardi language which was replaced by the native language after the advent of checks in Kashmir.   Teehgam also served as the trading mart upto the 1979 when kupwara a remote village of utter was given a distict status by Shiekh Mohammad Abdullah. Before the creation of the district in july 1979, Trehgam which was very near to the ancien tehsil station at shivloora served the link between  shardha, and the entire Neelam valley with shivloora and utter areas upto 1947 AD. This famous village was the attraction of different races who settled in it and made it their homeland. Trehgam is historically proved to have been put in to ashes by Badshah in the middle 15th century AD over the political domination , Because this Village was the attraction Of Ancient settlers ,  the reason over its strategic importance is yet to be proved. In the Medieval Periods when Islam replaced hinduism, some of the saints both  suffi and shieks  got settled in it. Syed Ismayil Along With His brother introduced Islam in Trehgam And were Followe By the Reshi Order In the 14-15th Century AD. Led by the advent of Nutreshi Baba with his six brothers And a sister rested in Poshipora.
