Samudram the name had been derived from the word ocean ,long ago the village had lot of ponds and water bodies.A group of people who migrated from poonthurai, near Erode were searching for right place for their livelihood. At that time a man in the group went on to the top of velayutha karadu(small hill) and seen a place which is surrounded by water bodies, then he stated that a place had been seen by him like samudram and called the place as such.
