The village Karanj is a very old village. It is border village of Deoria District. This Village is also known as Kailash Nagar. Karanj constitutes of two "Tola" named as Karaj (Kailash Nagar) and Behani Tola. The first tola consist of Hindu caste residents whereas in Behni Tola the major consttuents are from Muslim religion. This village has got one primary school, one each at both the Tola. The village is not having any hospital near by. The nearest hospital is located in Hatta, which is 7 Kms away. The village has a Masjid and a Temple. The name of the temple is Murkatawa Mandir, which is situated at south side of the village. Other temples in the village is Baram baba, Mata Kali Temple, Mata Vaishno Temple, Deeh Raja, Devi Mata Temple and recently established in Dec 2016, Shiva Temple at Ghhotha. This village has only two Brahmin families, one each at both Tolas.The education level of the village is very poor. The major constituents of the professionals in village are peasants and labourers. There are very few Government job holders, posted in throughout country and contributes very less for the developments of the village.
