OverView Of Hartola

A small hamlet, within a radius of 6 Kilometers, Hartola is a fruit- trees laden tiny mountain village atop a ridge which has a view of the Himalayas more spectacular than that of Mukhteshwar. Folklore has it that a British officer gifted this beautiful village to a young shepherd who discovered this area while grazing his cattle. Later it came to be owned by a member the royal family of Nepal, who while relocating to Nepal, gifted it to the village temple Purohit. Thus subsequently was a subject matter of litigation between the royal family, and the family of the temple priest. The High Court of Nainital upheld the gift as an instrument of transfer. The Sharma family pf Hartola, who own an enviable apple orchard, are descendants of the temple priest and the village of Hartola is literally an abode of the Lord.

Hartola is 10 Km from Nathuakhan. Near the '0' mile stone of Hartola,  an un-metalled  road goes down to the village Hartola and further this goes to Satpuri. In the middle of the Hartola Satpuri Road is a newly built (2013) temple of Lord Krishna, named the the Radharaman Dev Temple. All Hindu festivals are celebrated here and all Hartola and nearby villagers get-together to sing hymns particularly at Janam Ashtmi - the birthday of Lord Krishna.

The quality of apple growing here is not very good, but other fruits and particularly Peaches, Apricots, Plums and Pears are excellent. There are some Walnut trees as well. Besides the fruits, all kinds of vegetables and flowers grow here.

The Snow covered peaks of Trishul and Nandadevi are seen right in the middle of the 180 deg. view of the Himalayan range.
